2011 CARFU Cup review – playoff edition.

The Milwaukee Harlequins finished the CARFU Cup regular season second on the tables, falling just short due to bonus points. With the pool play over, the money rounds are looking like a repeat of last year with the Milwaukee Harlequins again hosting the Black and White in the semi finals.

Though the Harlequins had won all their games going into the weekend, nothing was for certain. The Griffins were looking to give their team a boost to finish off the season and Rockford were an unknown team.

To compound matters further , through injuries, work commitments , conflicts and the straight out unexplainable, we had a week of low numbers. While our development of players over this spring season gave us the depth to fill in the Griffins game, we had to put out an all points bulletin for the Rockford game. We want to thank all the old boys who heard the “New Team, Assemble!” . Heck , we would love to see more of you boys!

The Griffins game was one of moments of cohesion and periods of struggle. The coaches were impressed with how well the team responded to the pressure and pulling it together as a team on defensive stands. The score was knotted at half, with the Harlequins pulling away down the stretch to secure a win with a score of 34-20. The game was one enjoyed by the fans with some great flowing phases by both teams, and truly a great game to watch.

The top 4 teams in the cup were:

1-Chicago Lions 20pts
2- Milwaukee Harlequins 19pts
3 Chicago Condors 15pts
4 Milwaukee Black and White 15pts

To help ease the cost of travel , the committee set the semi finals up in a regional manner. So the Milwaukee Harlequins will be hosting the Black & White this weekend at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex, located at 6000 W. Ryan Rd, Franklin, WI. It promisies to be a great weekend of rugby, and currently a second game is also planned. So grab your boots, and bring the family. See you this Saturday!!
