The Milwaukee Barbarians begin the rugby fifteens season this weekend with a Division 1 away match vs. the Chicago Lions and a Division 3 home game vs. the Milwaukee Black & Blue.
But the rest of the season is mostly characterized by long stretches either on the road or in Milwaukee, including 6 consecutive matches at our home pitch at Zablocki Park.
The home-stretches feature three double-headers: Sep. 23, Sep. 30, and Oct. 21.
The schedule consists of fourteen Division I and eight Division III matches all to be played before the winter break. This follows a decision by the Midwest Rugby Football Union to play the entire competitive fifteens season in Autumn.
“We’re excited to schedule some recovery time in the Spring, but the Fall-only concept means that some athletes will be playing for fourteen weeks straight,” said club president Vic Drover.
“We’ve decided to bring in some extra physical therapy and athletic training resources to help get us through, but I hope the Midwest RFU builds more bye weeks in future seasons,” added Drover.
Athletes in the greater Milwaukee area interested in rugby are encouraged to come out for one of our practice sessions each Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30PM (see full practice schedule).
