Old Boys represent against collegiate sides at Minocqua tournament.

A contingent of old boys headed to the north woods this past weekend for the Minocqua “Lumberjack 10s” tourney.

As the tournament was run with the “exceptional” Black & Blue organizational approach, we were able to start late and finish early. Our old bodies were put in a bracket with UWM and UW Stevens Point.

UW Milwaukee

The first match was a well-contested exchange of scores with the final a loss to UWM 23-19 (at least, that is what we think was the score).

Lead by the “Battiola Tandem”, there was solid ball movement. We fielded a somewhat stable pack led by a front row of Adamsky, myself and Bill Mann. That’s roughly 780 lbs!

Colin Schmitt dominated in lineouts and Little John had some great moves – on the field, too! K-Dog was the quiet man with the big hits.

Complement all this with the extensive verbal sideline support of Bisquick Davis who is currently unable to play due to a season ending incident involving a tomato.

I believe that Rick Battiola, Dan Battiola, and Joe Redding scored during the match.

Huge Euge, appearing in both Quins’ matches as well as a game with the B&B, exhibited great play.

Both Rick and Wilma had a near miss with the fencing. Dan jumped in the lake and the DNR is investigating any possible HAZMAT violations.

UW Stevens Point

The second match against UWSP was more of a blur, but the Steven Point had a convincing 33 to 7 win against the old guard Harlequins.

No major incidents to report, and no hardware to bring home this year but a great time was had by all.

Thanks to everyone who could make it. Hope to see you all next year!
