Say hello to our visiting rugger Romain Vendé.

Romain Vendé (pronounced “Ven-day”) has come to Milwaukee with a primary focus upon a 3-month internship  with the Wisconsin Rugby Football Union, and in his spare time has decided to play a little rugby. Romain started playing rugby at age 11 and is ‘on loan’ from the Ris Orangis suburb of Paris, France.

Romain has played numerous positions in the back line including 10, 12, 13 and 15, but typically plays full-back or stand-off in the 5th national French division while managing the teams’ kicking duties.

Romain has had some success in his rugby career. His junior (U18) and senior men’s teams have won the “Ile de France” championship. The “Ile de France” is a large region surrounding and including Paris and includes some of the most competitive teams in the country. Other career highlights include playing the Harlequins while the club was on tour for the 2007 World Cup 🙂

Romain played his first match for the Quins this past weekend in Chicago against the Griffins at Wing. We hope he likes it here so much that he extends his visit through the Fall season and into the Division II playoffs in 2009.

Be sure to introduce yourself to Romain around the pitch and at the Pub. Welcome Romain!
