Honoring Papa Joe on tour

The club was only a couple days from embarking on their rugby tour to France this past fall when the unfortunate passing of Papa Joe Kloiber’s occurred.

Although half way around the world and away from many of our teammates and rugby family during this challenging time, there was also a peace and solidarity among the group as we did our best to remember and honor him and all he’s provided us along the way.

Rugby tours were a staple and core to the notable and life changing experiences Papa Joe brought forward in all the hats he wore on and off the pitch. So it’s not surprising that his presence was felt with us throughout tour.

We were able to bring with us the Milwaukee Harlequins flag that had itself had already embarked on prior tours with Joe and the rest of the club in years past. In honor and memory of Joe and all he’s done for us and the sport of rugby, we commemorated the tour with him and the other club presidents of the Barbarians thus far (Vic Drover, Ben Nirschl and Ty Ash).

As he was there in spirit with us, so to he is also remembered with us here!

Three Cheers to Joe and always WITH YOU!
