As the end of days inches ever closer (yeah, we’re REAL worried in the rugby community, bring it on Mayans), something even more earth shattering has reached out shores. In an attempt to raise the level of rugby in the state, the players of the Harlequins and cross-town rivals Milwaukee RFC along with a combined coaching staff, are undertaking a grand experiment, unparalleled in our time. The forging of two teams into one, limited to on-field activities, but with the goal of uniting rugby in our city, to rival the powerhouses to our south.
It all begins this week with practices being held indoors at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex. The ultimate goal is to field multiple sides and teams, but let’s not rush into it. Building a good base involves making sure everyone is on the same page, and that all the players from the elite to those who are brand new to rugby are getting their rugby skills honed to an appropriate level.
