Today the Milwaukee Barbarians Athletic Club named retired Irish International Dominic Crotty as the head coach for their sevens rugby program.
Coach Crotty hails from Cork, Ireland and brings a wealth of rugby experience to the Milwaukee Barbarians.
Having been capped at all age group and senior provincial and national levels in Ireland, Dominic went on to a 12-year professional career spanning 1992-2004.
During that time, he accumulated 91 caps with Munster Rugby and 5 test caps with Ireland playing wing and fullback. He also played for Garryowen Football Club.
“Coach Crotty’s experience and knowledge of the game is unquestionable, but the structure he brings to our program is the biggest asset, something we have been missing in the past,” said sevens coordinator Zach Albert. “With him leading us this year, there are no limitations to what our club can accomplish.”
In addition to his expertise in the 15-man code, Coach Crotty is also very experienced in sevens rugby and had the distinction of captaining Ireland at the 1999 Hong Kong Sevens, an experience he describes as one of the most rewarding but challenging experiences of his career.
“Coach Crotty is a game changer for our sevens program,” said team manager Joe Cunningham. “The Barbarians pride themselves on their homegrown talent, and the lads are eager to learn from someone who has been on the world stage playing along household names like Keith Wood, Paul O’Connell, and Peter Stringer.”
Since retiring from the sport in 2004, Coach Crotty has been focusing primarily on his engineering career and raising his young family. For the last 3 years, he has coached the tag rugby program in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
