Milwaukee Barbarians take first and fourth at opening rugby 7s tournament.

The Milwaukee Barbarians kicked off their rugby sevens season today with a strong showing at the Leines 7s tournament in Appleton, WI.

After pool play, the D1 side were undefeated with a 3-0-0 record. The D2 squad had a 2-1-0 record. Each advanced to the knock-out round.

The D3 record was 1-2-0, one win shy of an qualifying for the next round.

In the semi-finals, the Barbarians had an intra-squad match as the D1 and D2 teams faced off with the D1 lads coming out on top.

The D1 team then met MRFC in an all-Milwaukee rugby final. After 20 minutes, the Barbarians hoisted the trophy with a convincing 33-0 victory.

The D2 team battled Green Bay in the consolation final. Coming up a little short, they finished the day in 4th place.

Players of the tournament were Justin Patterson (D1), Garrett Shibilski (D2), and Ty Ash (D3).

Vic Drover

Vic has a long history in and around the sport of rugby both in Canada and the US. He has played for and started numerous clubs (Vandal's RFC, Strathcona Druids, Suffolk Bull Moose, Westside Harlequins, Milwaukee Barbarians, Hamilton Girls Rugby), and served many roles over the years at all administrative levels. Vic joined the Harlequins in 2007 and remained an active club member through the transition to the Barbarians. These days, he spends his rugby time playing tag rugby and touring with the Old Boys, keeping the club website updated, helping organize the Lakefront 7s, and fundraising.
