Spring rugby begins 4/14 in Green Bay.

The 2018 Spring rugby season for the Milwuakee Barbarians begins with 3 games on the road followed by three home games. The first match is this Saturday in Green Bay, WI versus the Celtics.

Unlike past years, there are no league matches this Spring as the competitive season in the Midwest now begins in August and runs through November. Thus, all of the Spring matches are exhibition/friendlies.

The Spring schedule concludes with a very special fixture against the Old Illtydians, a touring side from Cardiff, Wales (United Kingdom) that was founded in 1928!

“We’re excited to get back out on the pitch after a grueling fall season and long winter break,” siad Ben Nirschl, President of the Barbarians.

“We’ve got matches against teams we don’t normally see during Fall league play, including an international friendly, and it provides plenty of game time for our developing players and those new to the club this year.”

The exhibition schedule also allows for Barbarians to participate in the Midwest Select Side Tournament held over two weekends on April 21-22 and May 5. Ten Barbarians have been chosen for Wisconsin’s select-side roster.

The full Spring schedule is as follows:

  • 4/14 — Barbarians at Green Bay
  • 4/21 — Barbarians at Oconomowoc
  • 5/5 — Milwaukee at Banshees
  • 5/12 — Wisconsin RC at Milwaukee
  • 5/19 — Black & Blue at Milwaukee
  • 5/29 — Old Illtydians at Milwaukee
