Jeff played for the Harlequins for 21 years across the backfield, but his finest stretch came in the 1980s at scrumhalf, where his performances earned him selection to the Midwest representative side.
Smart, steady, and competitive, he made his mark in big moments and became one of the club’s most trusted players. One match in particular remains part of club lore: the 1985 Midwest Junior Cup Final.
It was a hard-fought, high-scoring contest that came down to the closing minutes, when the club was awarded a penalty kick with the game hanging in the balance. Jeff calmly slotted the kick to put the club ahead by a single point, and after several more tense minutes, he sealed the victory.
With the clock in the red, Jeff kicked to touch to end the match. Reflecting on that moment, he said, “I was never so elated as when I kicked to touch as time expired.”
Off the field, Jeff also gave enormously to the club during his playing years, including serving as a club officer.
In retirement from competitive rugby, he has remained a deeply active and valued member of the community — playing in Old Boy matches, cheering from the sidelines, touring with the club, volunteering at the Lakefront 7s, and helping with game-day activities such as food preparation and pitch setup.
