The Barbarians are fortunate to have the support of many great partners both nationally and in our community. A great example of one of our local sponsors is The Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin. Not only is OHOW a

Not only is OHOW a medical option for our athletes and their families, but they are also an excellent resource for advice and referrals - even for physicians outside the OHOW treatment network.

OHOW CEO Brian Cramer has taken a personal role in managing the OHOW relationship with the Barbarians. We recently presented him with a framed jersey to recognize all his effort and the generosity of OHOW.

We recently sat down with Mr. Cramer to learn more about the services offered by OHOW and the partnership with the Barbarians as the first in a series of partner interviews.

MB: What products and services you offer?

BC: The Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin (OHOW) focuses on treating orthopedic injuries and conditions and provides surgery, inpatient, lab, x-ray, MRI, CT and rehabilitation services. The quality of care and attention to patients' needs have earned the hospital national and local recognition from several sources.OHOW has three critical success factors: Quality, Patient

OHOW has three critical success factors: Quality, Patient Satisfaction, and Staff Satisfaction. In the last couple of years, several organizations from around Wisconsin and the United States have visited OHOW to learn from us in these three areas.

MB: Why do you sponsor athletics?

BC: As an orthopedic provider for sports medicine, sponsoring athletics is second nature for us. Many of our physicians and staff have played at the collegiate level, high school, and local level and still participate in marathons, triathlons and various other athletic teams. Many of us still are “weekend warriors” running, biking, basketball, volleyball, and skiing to name a few. Athletics is in our blood and bones

MB: What appealed to you about sponsoring rugby and the Milwaukee Barbarians?

BC: One of our surgeons already provides team coverage for the Milwaukee Barbarians so it was a great opportunity for us to support him and the rugby team. You don’t often have the opportunity to sponsor a semi-professional team and we were excited to be presented with the chance to be part of a great organization

MB: What other sports programs and/or community programs are you associated with

BC: For athletics pro, rams the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin is the orthopedic provider for UWM Athletics. Our physicians provide team coverage for men’s and women’s basketball as well as men’s and women’s soccer.

Team physician support is also provided to Concordia University-Mequon. We also sponsor and support many other teams and programs: Wisconsin Premier Volleyball Club, Adversity Volleyball Club, the Bavarian Soccer Club, Town of Cedarburg Little League, Northshore Whitecaps Baseball Club, Whitefish Bay High School, and the BOSS Baseball Club.

The Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin also provides the athletic trainer to Cedarburg High School for their athletic program.

MB: What’s the most interesting aspect of serving the greater Milwaukee area and southeastern Wisconsin?

BC: The Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin provides the highest quality of orthopedic care in the United States. Out of 3,000+ hospitals across the country, the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin scored #1 for quality based on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under the Value-Based Purchasing Program. The CMS initiative rewards hospitals with incentive payments for the quality of care they provide to Medicare beneficiaries. CMS rewards hospitals based on: the quality of care provided to Medicare patients; how closely best clinical practices are followed; and how well hospitals enhance patients’ experiences of care during hospital stays.

Orthopedic patients in the greater Milwaukee area and southeastern Wisconsin can receive the very best orthopedic care right here at home.

MB: Where are you located and what’s the best way for people to contact your business?

BC: The Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin is located in Glendale, WI off of Port Washington Road between Hampton and Capitol Drive. We also have a physical therapy site in Cedarburg, WI and will soon open a physical therapy site in Shorewood, WI. The best way to receive services is through one of our 21 orthopedic surgeons. Referrals to one of these surgeons can be made by going to our website at ohow.com and providing your information and needs through the Contact Us page or you can call Brian Cramer at 414-961-6803.
