Second half surge falls short in Cincinnati.

The Milwaukee Barbarians traveled to Cincinnati to play the Wolfhounds in the second match of a 3-week series on the road.

Despite the near-perfect conditions, the Barbarians were shell-shocked by a determined Cincinnati side who dominated posession in the first half and racked up 17 points in the first 18 minutes.

Following a yellow card to flanker Anthony Sims, the Wolfhounds continued to pound away at the Milwaukee defense and scored twice more before the half-time whistle to bring the score to 31-0.

Milwaukee switches on in the second half

The second half showed a much improved Milwaukee defense and Sims opened the scoring 6 minutes in.

Milwaukee finally started to realize some possession and the offense executed well. With just 10 minutes remaining, Milwaukee had narrowed the margin to just 10 points through tries from Drzweicki (two, shown above) and Patterson, and four conversions from captain Vigder.

With Cincinnati leading with a much closer 38-28 score, tempers and frustration began to show for the home side.

Despite Milwaukee’s push, the Wolfhounds collected themselves and skillfully put away the match with a pair of tries from Barbarian errors. At the final whistle, Milwaukee trailed 48-28 to bring home a bonus-point from having scored 4 tries.

The result gives the Barbarians a 2-2-0 record this season and 4th place in the Division 1 standings table.
